VA graduates must work 18 months full time, MD and DC graduates must work 24 months full time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Interns complete rotations within their community or geographic region of Virginia, Maryland, or Washington DC. However, interns will be expected to travel outside their regions to available rotations when necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Internship Orientation is held in Richmond, VA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"padding-bottom: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px;\">Distance Technology Requirements<\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\">Interns enrolled in the VA\/MD\/DC WIC Dietetic Internship must have access to a reliable desktop or laptop computer (or tablet) with a stable internet connection. Devices must include a working webcam and microphone, as virtual components are integrated throughout the program. Interns will use Microsoft SharePoint, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams to access materials, complete assignments, and participate in group class days. Proficiency in using computers, internet browsers, Microsoft Office (especially Word), and common applications is required. Technical support will be available to assist interns as needed.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Estimated Costs to the Intern<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"padding-bottom: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\"><strong>Prior to\/During the Internship:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\"><strong>Liability Insurance (Mandatory)<\/strong>: up to $100<br \/>\n<strong>Resource Fee*:<\/strong>\u00a0 $6,550<br \/>\n<strong>Student Membership in AND:<\/strong> $65<br \/>\n<strong>Lab coat\/uniforms as required:<\/strong> $50<br \/>\n<strong>Transportation\/lodging:<\/strong> $600-$1400<br \/>\n<strong>Misc. such as fee for drug screen evaluation:<\/strong> $20-$50<br \/>\n<strong>RD Exam review course (optional):<\/strong>\u00a0 $300-$450<br \/>\n<strong>Housing:<\/strong> $1,350\/month in Richmond, VA<\/p>\n<p><em>*Resource Fee:\u00a0 The internship program applies for an operational adjustment (OA) grant each year from USDA to cover the resource fee.\u00a0 If the program does not receive the grant, each intern will be responsible for paying the resource fee (which can be paid in three installments).\u00a0 Please contact the Internship Director regarding questions about the status of the grant.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-bottom: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\"><strong>Upon Completion of Internship:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\"><strong>Registration Exam Fee:<\/strong>\u00a0 $225<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-bottom: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\"><strong>Upon Passing the Registration Exam:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\"><strong>Annual Registration:<\/strong> $70<br \/>\n<strong>Licensure Fee (Maryland only)<\/strong>:\u00a0 $300<br \/>\n<strong>Licensure Fee (DC only)<\/strong>:\u00a0 $279<br \/>\n<strong>Dietetic Practice Group Fee (optional)<\/strong>:\u00a0varies by group<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatrightpro.org\/member-types-and-benefits\"><strong>Membership in AND (optional)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"padding-bottom: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px;\"><strong>Outcomes Data<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px;\">Outcome data relating to intern graduation, exam results, and employment post-internship are available on request. Requests should be directed to the Internship Director and may take up to 30 days to be processed.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"padding-bottom: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px;\"><strong>Prospective Interns<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; margin-top: 0px; font-weight: 400;\">Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master\u2019s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In order to be approved for registration examination eligibility with a bachelor\u2019s degree, an individual must meet all eligibility requirements and be submitted into CDR's Registration Eligibility Processing System (REPS) before\u00a0<strong>12:00 midnight Central Time, December 31, 2023<\/strong>. For more information about this requirement, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdrnet.org\/graduatedegree\">CDR's website.<\/a> In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship at the VA\/MD WIC Dietetic Internship Program are eligible to apply to take the CDR credentialing exam to become an RDN once a master\u2019s degree is obtained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In most states, graduates also must obtain licensure or certification to practice (Virginia does not require licensure). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdrnet.org\/state-licensure\">Learn more about state licensure requirements.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatrightpro.org\/acend\/students-and-advancing-education\/information-for-students\">Learn more about educational pathways<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatrightpro.org\/acend\/students-and-advancing-education\/information-for-students\"> to become a RDN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information about the requirements and process to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN):<\/strong><br \/>\nWhile state interpretations of statutes may vary, it is ACEND's considered opinion that the program meets the educational requirements for dietetics licensure and certification in all states. However, completing an ACEND-accredited academic program alone does not qualify an individual for licensure or certification as a dietitian in any state.
