Adolescent Health<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

Our vision<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is a community where all adolescents thrive, supported by a comprehensive and inclusive approach to health that fosters their physical, mental, and social well-being. We envision a com<\/span>munity<\/span>\u00a0that values and invests in the health of our youth, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services, nurturing supportive environments, and empowering adolescents to reach their full potential.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Emergency Preparedness & Response<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

The RCHD Emergency Preparedness Program develops plans and coordinates activities to ensure that the Richmond City Health District is prepared to respond rapidly and effectively to public health emergencies. Our emergency preparedness coordinator works closely with city, state, and federal emergency planners to plan and implement responses to threats such as disease outbreaks or natural disasters. This includes a Pandemic Influenza Response Plan that provides training for RCHD personnel and volunteers to develop capacity for dispensing mass prophylaxis at city-wide and regional levels. call\u00a0(804) 205-3753<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Environmental Health Division<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

The Environmental Health Division is committed to protecting the health of the public by evaluating, correcting, and preventing many risk factors in the environment which can adversely affect the health of our community. Responsibilities of this division include regulatory evaluation and enforcement of food establishments, temporary food establishments, tourist establishments, dairy facilities, marinas, and swimming pools; investigation of foodborne illness complaints and outbreaks; food safety education and promotion; environmental complaints and investigations for rodent and pest infestation; mosquito surveillance concerning Zika Virus; and working with Richmond Animal Care and Control to administer the Rabies Program.\u00a0 We consistently interact with many state and local agencies in order to better serve our community. Epidemiology<\/b><\/a><\/h2>\n

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of disease in a population. Public health epidemiologists monitor the health and illness of a population, investigate the factors that affect the community's health, and recommend interventions to reduce the risk of disease. Epidemiology is practiced in health departments daily and involves principles of surveillance, investigation, laboratory testing, data management, and communication. Healthy Childbirth and Infancy<\/a><\/h2>\n

Richmond and Henrico Health Districts are here to help new moms connect to prenatal care. If you are pregnant and not sure what to do next please contact us!\u00a0\u00a0Our bilingual (English\/Spanish)social workers provide maternity case management focused on early access to prenatal care. Lead-Safe Program & Healthy Homes Initiative<\/a><\/h2>\n

The goal of the Lead Safe Richmond Program is to eliminate childhood lead poisoning in the City of Richmond. Childhood lead poisoning is a completely preventable disease that may be caused by a number of sources in a child\u2019s environment. However, the most common source is chipping\/peeling paint and lead-contaminated dust (from lead-based paint) in houses built before 1978. Call (804) 205-3726\u00a0for information.<\/p>\n

Office Of New Americans-Refugee Services<\/a><\/h2>\n

Our Office of New Americans-Refugee Services exists to address health issues that may influence successful resettlement, identify and intervene on diseases and conditions of public health concern, follow up on medical issues identified overseas, and refer to local medical providers for follow-up and linkage to primary care. The Henrico County Health Department (HCHD) conducts health screenings for both Henrico AND Richmond City refugee clients.
