Our staff consists of trained physicians, nurses, and epidemiologists. This department receives reports of communicable diseases from local physicians, hospitals, clinics. and laboratories. On\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2023\/02\/09\/fact-sheet-covid-19-public-health-emergency-transition-roadmap.html\">May 11, 2023<\/a>, the U.S. COVID-19 Public Health Emergency declaration expired. With the emergency phase over, efforts shifted from emergency response to managing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic alongside other infectious diseases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif\">While the emergency response has ended, there are no changes to the way we can protect ourselves from COVID-19. You still can slow the spread\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtonva.us\/Government\/Programs\/Health\/COVID-19\/Steps-to-Slow-the-Spread\">using layered strategies<\/a>. No single strategy is perfect at preventing the spread of COVID-19. Use as many multiple (overlapping) layers of protection as you can\u2013stay up-to-date with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtonva.us\/Government\/Programs\/Health\/COVID-19\/COVID-19-Vaccine\">vaccines<\/a>, get\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/coronavirus\/protect-yourself\/covid-19-testing\/covid-19-testing-sites\/\">tested<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtonva.us\/Government\/Programs\/Health\/COVID-19\/Steps-to-Slow-the-Spread#section-3\">stay home when you\u2019re sick<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif\">The public health response to COVID-19 is ever changing, so it is important to stay informed with accurate information.
