Bush created the USA Freedom Corps to help Americans answer his call to service and to foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>The Medical Reserve Corps program is sponsored by the Office of the Surgeon General, in cooperation with the White House\u2019s <em>USA Freedom Corps<\/em>, and the Department of the Homeland Security\u2019s <em>Citizen Corps<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the MRC unit is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruit health care professional and support volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Create a framework to match volunteers\u2019 skills with the communities needs<\/li>\n<li>Train volunteers to respond better to the needs of individual communities thereby enhancing local emergency response efforts<\/li>\n<li>Provide reserve capacity at the community level to respond to local health needs and priorities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>MISSION<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Peninsula Medical Reserve Corps (PenMRC) Mission<\/h2>\n<p>The Peninsula MRC unit\u2019s mission is to augment and assist existing community operations during large-scale emergencies, aid in the response to pressing health care needs, and improve community emergency preparedness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The PENINSULA MRC unit, founded in 2004 has received funding from the following program supporters:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hampton Roads Metropolitan Medical Response System (HRMMRS)\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.hrmmrs.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hrmmrs.org\/\">http:\/\/www.hrmmrs.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The National MRC Program Office\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.medicalreservecorps.gov\/HomePage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.medicalreservecorps.gov\/HomePage\">http:\/\/www.medicalreservecorps.gov<\/a>\/<\/li>\n<li>National Association of County &amp; City Health Officials (NACCHO)\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.naccho.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.naccho.org\/\">http:\/\/www.naccho.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Citizen Corps Councils on the Peninsula and in Hampton\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.citizencorps.gov\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.citizencorps.gov\/\">http:\/\/www.citizencorps.gov\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: small\">We appreciate our supporters!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong><em>Volunteers Protecting the Health of Virginia<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, thousands of Americans responded by volunteering their skills and talents to assist the community.\u00a0Many more Americans asked, \u201cWhat can I do to help?\u201d.
