Scholarships are available for individuals' seeking degrees as<\/span> <span class=\"JsGRdQ\"><strong>Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Midwives, and Nurse Educators<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2022\/09\/NursingPP_Mary-Marshall-ALL-2022-Review.pdf\">Nursing Scholarship Programs 2022 Guidelines<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/content\/uploads\/sites\/76\/2025\/03\/NENPNM-flyer-3.pdf\">Nursing Scholarship Flier<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-4965-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"1\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Nurse Practitioner\/ Nurse Midwife Scholarship Program<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>The Nurse Practitioner\/ Nurse Midwife Scholarship Program provides scholarship awards to students <strong>who agree to practice full-time as a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife in a medically underserved area of Virginia<\/strong>. All awards are made by a Nursing Scholarship Committee, appointed by the State Board of Health. The Office of Health Equity (OHE) of the State Health Department serves as the staff element to the Nursing Scholarship Committee and has no role in the determination of scholarship awarded to recipients. The guidelines for determining scholarship awards to recipients are established by the Nursing Scholarship Committee. Preference for the scholarship award shall be given to residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia who are\u00a0minority students, students enrolled in Family Practice, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Adult Health, and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Programs. Participants residing in Medically Underserved Areas (MUA\u2019s) as determined by the Board of Health will also be given preference.<\/p>\n<p>In order to be considered for the Nurse Practitioner\/Nurse Midwife Scholarship program, the following are required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant must be a United States Citizen , National, hold an immigration visa or classified as a political refugee as verified by a social security number included in the application.\u00a0\u00a0<b>Persons with a temporary or student visa are not eligible<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><\/b>Applicant must be a resident of the State of Virginia for at least one year<b>.<\/b>\u00a0 Verification provided must prove that the applicant has lived in Virginia for at least one year (ex. Renewal date on driver\u2019s license, previous year on voter registration card, motor vehicle registration\/employment records\/deed of property\/ sources of financial support, etc if they reflect multiple years).\u00a0 Please provide one of the following appropriate forms of verification:\u00a0 1.) State Income Tax record or statement 2.) Driver's license with renewal information \u00a03.) Voter registration card 4.)Motor vehicle registration \u00a05.) Employment record 6.)\u00a0 Ownership of real property 7.) \u00a0Financial support records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant must upload a one page Narrative Summary.<b>\u00a0 \u201c<u>Section 7-Narrative Summary<\/u>\u201d must be printed at the top of the page.\u00a0 The applicant should sign and date the bottom of the page.\u00a0 (<\/b><b>The Narrative Summary will not be accepted if not submitted as stated above.)\u00a0\u00a0In one page or less<\/b>, the summary must briefly explain the significance of the Virginia Nurse Practitioner\/Nurse Midwife Scholarship in pursuing the applicant\u2019s educational goals, any school\/community activities, and any skill-set that is pertinent to the nursing profession.\u00a0\u00a0<b>If the Narrative Summary exceeds the one page limit, it will not be accepted<\/b>.\u00a0 Please include:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Scholastic attainment<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Character attributes and adaptability to the nurse practitioner\/nurse midwife profession<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Plans for practicing in Virginia following graduation<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Any specializations in the following areas: family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, adult health, and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0geriatric nurse practitioner programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0School and\/or community activities<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Any skill sets pertinent to the profession<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant must be accepted to or enrolled <a>in a school\u00a0<\/a><a id=\"m_401284211326598899gmail-_anchor_1\" href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_401284211326598899__msocom_1\" name=\"m_401284211326598899__msoanchor_1\">[VP1]<\/a>\u00a0of nursing in the State of Virginia, which is approved by the State Board of Nursing.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0applicant must have the Dean\/Director\/Chair of the Applicant\u2019s School of Nursing complete\u00a0<b><u>Section 8<\/u><\/b>\u00a0of the application, provide an\u00a0<b>original signature<\/b>\u00a0and have it returned to him\/her to be submitted with the application.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<b><u>Section 8<\/u>\u00a0will<\/b>\u00a0<b>not be<\/b>\u00a0<b>accepted if it is not submitted with the application.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0If applicable, the applicant must demonstrate\u00a0<a>financial need\u00a0<\/a><a id=\"m_401284211326598899gmail-_anchor_2\" href=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0\/#m_401284211326598899__msocom_2\" name=\"m_401284211326598899__msoanchor_2\">[VP2]<\/a>\u00a0verified by a Financial Aid Officer or Authorized Personnel.\u00a0 The applicant must file one or more of the following: 1) Financial Aid Form (FAF) of the College Scholarship Service 2) The Family Financial Statement (FFS) of the American College Testing or 3) The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the institution the applicant is attending or will attend to determine financial need. The applicant must demonstrate a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.5 if currently enrolled in and attending a nursing program.\u00a0Request transcripts in advance and include with the application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-4965-0-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Nurse Educator Scholarship Program<\/h3>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p><strong>The Nurse Educator Scholarship Program is intended for part-time and full-time master\u2019s and doctoral level nursing students.<\/strong>\u00a0 All scholarship awards are made by an Advisory Committee appointed by the Virginia State Board of Health. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH)-Office of Health Equity (OHE) of the State Health Department serves as the staff element to the Advisory Committee and has no role in the determination of scholarship recipients.\u00a0 The Advisory Committee recommends the award selection criteria to the State Commissioner of Health.
