HIV planning is an important process in which service providers\u2019 work with the community and key stakeholders to enhance access to HIV services for the highest affected populations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mandates the process for all states receiving federal prevention funding.<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia planning group formed in 1994 in compliance with requirements from CDC. Since 1994, there have been many changes in approaches to HIV, brought about by medical advances in the treatment of and testing for HIV.<\/p>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d04faa3aae3\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"&lt;strong&gt;Goals&lt;\/strong&gt;\"    ><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/span><div id=\"target-id69d04faa3aae3\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/p>\n<p>The goals of community HIV planning align with the National HIV\/AIDS Strategy, which are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce new HIV infections in Virginia<\/li>\n<li>Increase access to care and improve health outcomes for people living with HIV; and<\/li>\n<li>Reduce HIV-related health disparities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To meet these goals, the CHPG identifies new members for the planning process.\u00a0 Once the planning body is complete, the engagement process begins.\u00a0 Finally, the CHPG develops, implements, and monitors a jurisdictional HIV plan.\u00a0 This plan is a five-year planning document that is updated annually.\u00a0 Updates address the emerging and changing needs of the community.<\/div>\n<span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d04faa3ab61\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"&lt;strong&gt;Membership&lt;\/strong&gt;\"    ><strong>Membership<\/strong><\/span><div id=\"target-id69d04faa3ab61\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/p>\n<p>The CHPG, as described in its bylaws, must be made of no less than 25 members and no more than 35 members. The application process is ongoing and there is no deadline for submission. \u00a0Applications are kept on file for two years and are considered as vacancies arise or membership terms end.<\/p>\n<p>Members are asked to make a two-year commitment to the group. The full group meets 6 to 8 times per year.\u00a0 Meetings occur in Richmond and are daylong. \u00a0\u00a0Subcommittee meetings occur periodically in a variety of locations. \u00a0Members must be active participants. \u00a0Attendance requirements are strict and members who fail to attend on a regular basis will lose their membership. \u00a0Members are reimbursed for travel expenses, meals, and lodging.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals interested in membership please use our <a href=\"https:\/\/redcap.vdh.virginia.gov\/redcap\/surveys\/?s=KHAACP8M4F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online application form<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-2353-3\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-has-style\" ><div id=\"vhc\" class=\"panel-row-style panel-row-style-for-2353-3\" ><div id=\"pgc-2353-3-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-2353-3-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"3\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-2353-3-0-0\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h2>Virginia Hepatitis Coalition<\/h2>\n<p>Virginia has a newly formed Hepatitis Coalition that advocates for persons affected by viral hepatitis.<\/p>\n<p>Members include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>representatives from community based organizations;<\/li>\n<li>representatives from national organizations;<\/li>\n<li>health care providers;<\/li>\n<li>clinical support staff;<\/li>\n<li>drug user health;<\/li>\n<li>pharmaceutical industry;<\/li>\n<li>VDH staff; and<\/li>\n<li>other government agency staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Anyone working in, or interested in, viral hepatitis issues are welcome to join the calls.
